YSYV LEVER Studio Winter 2021 Cohort- Dekum Court

Dekum.png

This session's project will be an exploration of the Dekum neighborhood in North Portland. Dekum Court is an existing apartment complex that will soon be redeveloped to increase the number of units from 40 to 185 in order to address the housing crisis in Portland. The first portion of the class will cover the site's history and current conditions (geography and surroundings) and will ask students to use this context to develop a program they are interested in for the site. The program should serve a perceived need or desire in the community--weather that be residential, institutional, or recreational. Possibilities might include housing, a community recreation center, a school, a library or a museum.
